Tóm tắt The volume is intended largely for health workers whose prime responsibility is the care of children with cancer. It deals in considerable detail with the use of appropriate analgesic drugs and of adjuvant therapy for the relief of other symptoms related to cancer or arising from treatment. However, the emphasis throughout the book is on a holistic approach, with management of pain undertaken not in isolation but as part of comprehensive palliative care. The need to recognize childrenÒs psychological, social, and spiritual problems, to allay their fears, and to answer their questions is stresses, as is the value of involving family members in treatment and support. The book also addresses such issues as education of professional health-care workers, public awareness of the special problems of children with cancer, and regulations governing the distribution of prescription of opioid analgesics, which should ensure that its readership extends to policy-makers and legislators.
