Tóm tắt	This manual offers the clear direction and coordination that will ensure the best use of resources for the strengthening or establishment of such endeavours; it is therefore aimed both at administrators and decision-makers and at those with direct responsibility for the creation and operation of poison control facilities. Consistently emphasizing the key role to be played by poison control centres, it deals principally with the clinical, analytical and information services that must be provided, with toxicovigilance and prevention of poisoning, with the availability of antidotes, and with the crucial elements of response to major emergencies involving toxic chemicals. While the guidelines are based on the experience of established centres throughout the world, they are designed to be adaptable to the prevailing socioeconomic and cultural conditions in any country now considering substantive poison control measures.
