The first considers epidemiology and pathology. Other chapters deal with the molecular and genetic correlates of inherited susceptibility to ultraviolet radiation-induced skin cancer and the cutaneous immunology of host defense. The next area focuses on clinical assessment and staging of cutaneous malignancy and the diagnostic imaging modalities that are important for advanced or aggressive neoplasms. Other chapters are devoted to special problem areas such as the scalp, forehead, and periauricular and periorbital areas. Finally, there are several chapters on cosmetic and functional restoration following tumor ablation. The concluding chapters of the text book look to the future with an in-depth discussion of the role of radiotherapy, strategies for tumor prevention, psychosocial aspects of care, and emerging therapies such as photodynamic treatment.
