Tóm tắt	The goal of this textbook is to provide the orthopaedic surgeon with data for guidance in treating the patient who has experienced an unfavorable outcome or a complication. It is hoped that awareness of the complication before the fact will in many instances direct the surgeon to take steps that will prevent the untoward event. The format of four parts still seems to offer a convenient organization of the material. In Part I the discussions cover general considerations, anesthesia, traction and appliances, external fixation, bracing, implants, infections, and the role of secondary gain. Part II covers the complications of trauma, and part III covers the complications of arthroplasty and total joint replacement. In Part IV the complications of reconstructive surgery, arthrodesis, hip osteotomies, burns, amputations, and surgery for neoplasms, among other subjects, are discussed. The text is not intended as a primary or Ỏhow-toÕ surgical text; there are other excellent works that take that approach.
